Lobbying
Representing, Assisting and Informing the Caravan & Camping Industry industry since 1960.
Established in 1960, the Irish Caravan & Camping Council was founded with the aim of representing Caravan & Camping sector, a vital section of small business in Ireland and a significant element of Ireland’s tourism offering. To this day the Council continues to Represent, Assist and Inform; caravan & camping park operators and trade members at a local and national level.
We continuously lobby for change in regulations, legislation, education and training to help the industry to grow and prosper. We ensure the voices of our 100 members are heard and represented through:
- Representation of members at national level in matters of tourism policy with organisations such as Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Ireland and ITIC, (Irish Tourist Industry Confederation)
(We successfully lobbied government to get Static mobile home pitches included under the 9% VAT rate) - We lobby to Influence European legislation affecting the Irish Caravan & Camping Industry through our membership of the European Federation of Campsite Owners – (EFCO&HPA)
- Lobbying for Insurance reform and reduced premiums through membership of the Alliance for Insurance Reform.
CURRENT LOBBYING PRIORITIES
COVID-19 Supports
The shutdown of the Tourism & Hospitality sector in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic has had a significant impact on the caravan and camping sector, a vital element of Ireland’s tourism offering. We have made submission to government making a case for self-contained accommodation and outdoor activity providers to re-open to the general public as early as possible.
The Sector was hit hardest and will take the longest to recover. We have made submissions to government for financial supports since the crisis began, including: extension of wage supports and inclusion of all business types (new and seasonal), VAT reductions for the entire sector, and a specific grant aid package for caravan & camping parks via the Tourism Business Continuity Scheme.
